Grianos
Origin: Greek
Source Name: γέρανος
Japanese: グリアノス
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki I-IV

Origin

Grianos is derived from the ancient Greek word Geranos, meaning 'Crane'. In addition to the name's meaning, there is a dance attested in Minoan Crete called the Geranos Dance. Cranes are seen as auspicious birds in many cultures, including in ancient Greece.

Appearances

  • Grianos is the name of Vita Clotilde's familiar, taking the form of a bird and appearing in the first two Sen no Kiseki games. In Sen no Kiseki IV, Vita and Roselia begin the process of reviving Grianos.
  • In Sen no Kiseki III and IV, Vita uses Blue Fan Grianos (蒼扇グリアノス) as her weapon, with the weapon only being named in the latter game.
  • Grianos is referred to indirectly in Sen no Kiseki II and IV in Vita's Crafts. In the former she uses Summon Auspicious Bird (瑞鳥召喚) which references the perception of cranes as symbolic animals. This was localized as Summon Grianos. In Sen no Kiseki IV a modified form of the Craft called Divine Dance of the Auspicious Bird (瑞鳥神楽) appears in its place and alludes to the Geranos Dance.
