__TOC__

==Origin==
Gnome is derived from the Renaissance Latin word Gnomus and may have been derived from a compound Greek word Genomos, meaning 'earth-dweller'). The earliest attestation of the word is the sixteenth century writer Paracelsus, who may have coined the term himself. He described the ''gnomus'' as earth elementals short of stature who could move through the earth with ease and avoided interacting with humans. The term entered European popular culture within a century in the form of French fiction.

==Appearances==
* The Gnome (ノーム) is a crablike monster that appears in Brandish VT/4.
* The Gnomes are a race that appear in Zwei!, are associated with the earth and have a village of their own (ノームの村) which the protagonists visit.
* In the Kiseki Series, the Gnomes ({{Ruby-ja|地精|グノーム}}) are the modern descendants of one of the seven pre-Collapse civilizations and once possessed the Sept-Terrion of Earth. Several major characters in the Sen no Kiseki games are Gnomes or are related to them.
