Origin
A Paraselene is the scientific name for the optical phenomenon more commonly referred to as a Moondog, when refracted moonlight causes a bright spot to appear to the side of a lunar halo. The name comes from words Para meaning 'Beside' and Selene the Greek goddess of the moon.
