Longinus
Origin: | Latin/Greek |
---|---|
Source Name: | λόγχη |
Japanese: | ロンギヌス |
Appears In: | Sen no Kiseki III |
Origin
Longinus is the name attributed in apocryphal Christian texts to the soldier who pierced Christ's side with a spear on the cross, and by extension when the spear became venerated it became known as the Lance of Longinus. The name first appears in the Gospel of Nicodemus and appears to be a Latinization of the Greek word Lonkhe, meaning 'Spear'.
Appearances
- Longinus is Gaius Worzel's second and strongest weapon in Sen no Kiseki III. The descriptive text calls the weapon a holy lance.
Trivia
- The Lance of Longinus appears in Neon Genesis Evangelion as a massive spearlike artifact with a distinct double-helix structure. Falcom has made several references to that particular incarnation of Longinus.
