Source Name: | מִרְיָם |
Japanese: | マリオネット |
Appears In: | Ys IX |
Origin
A marionnette (with two n's in French, one in English) is a wooden puppet animated with strings. The name is a combination of the name Marie and the diminutive suffis -ette. Marie is the French rendering for Mary via Latin, Greek and ultimately the Hebrew name Miryam, though the name itself may have Egyptian roots.
The puppet's name came from early use of the dolls to depict religious figures, such as Mary (Vierge Marie in French) which was later extended to all such puppets.
Appearances
- In Ys IX, Marionette Line (マリオネットライン) is one of Anemona's Skills. As a living doll, the name fits her perfectly.
- Also in Ys IX, the theme song which plays in the dungeon at the end of Anemona's introduction is MARIONETTE, MARIONETTE.
