Arhat Gem
Origin: Sanskrit
Source Name: अर्हत्
Japanese: 羅漢珠
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki III-IV

Origin

In Buddhism, an arhat is one who has attained enlightenment, though different schools of thought exist as to whether their enlightenment is the equivalent to full Buddhahood or whether it is a lesser form. Mayayana Buddhism for example identifies arhats as below the degree of attainment of a Bodhisattva. The name comes from the Sanskrit very Arh and means 'Meriting' or 'Deserving'.
