I'm rather leaning to the latter エキュル: Écru (French for 'Unbleached/Raw'), also found several towns named Herque(ville) which have been rendered in Japanese with the same katakana オースタン: Ostern (German for 'Easter', with some juicy if disputed origins) エネド: Ened (Old English for 'Duck', it's a seaport)
