Audumbla
Origin: Old Norse
Source Name: Auðumbla
Japanese: アウズンブラ

Origin

Audumbla is a primeval cow appearing in the Gylfaginning, where she nursed the primordial jotunn Ymir. Her name is a combination of words meaning 'Rich' and 'Hornless', giving the combined implication 'hornless cow rich in milk'.

Appearances

  • Excellent Hammer Audumbla (豊鎚アウズンブラ) is Yufa's strongest weapon in Ys IX.

Trivia

  • There are several puns in Yufa's weapon. As her Monstrum form is based on a bull, the name is a nod to her nature. The character read as 'Excellent' can also mean 'Bountiful' and is a component in the word describing a plentiful harvest, while Yufa is a farmer when she's not being a superhero. The character is also a component of a word meaning 'large breasts', which Yufa has. You could even say that Yufa has HUGE... tracts of land.
