Origin
Carmen is a French opera by Georges Bizet and its title character is a passionate gypsy; The opera remains one of the most popular and widely performed in the western canon. Trivia
- The name Carmen has two separate origins. As Bizet's opera is set in Spain, Hebrew is the ultimate source for the eponymous heroine. The second origin for the name is Latin, where a 'carmen is an verse or a prayer.
