Origin

Tikal or Tik’al was a major city-state of the Mayan civilization in what is now Guatemala, which was a dominant power for much of the third through ninth centuries CE.

Trivia

  • Tikal is the modern name of the archaeological site, the original name is believed to be Yax Mutul ('First Mutul') with the exact meaning of the second word uncertain.
