Atlas Continent
Origin: | Greek Mythology |
---|---|
Source Name: | Ἄτλας |
Japanese: | アトラス大陸 |
Appears In: | Ys Series (mentioned) |
Origin
As the Atlas Sea was named for the mythical Titan, the Atlas Continent is named for the mythical city of Atlantis which was named for the same figure, invented by Plato as an allegory. The Atlas Continent, like Atlantis, was a powerful land which was lost beneath the waves.
Appearances
- The Atlas Continent has not appeared directly in the series to date, though a land on the easternmost fringe of the Eldeen's influence serves as the setting of Ys VI. The Tabulas records indicate that the land of the Eldeen was considered distant even in Canaan.
Trivia
- According to both the non-canonical The Dawn of Ys and the canonical Ys VI, the homeland of the Eldeen on the Atlas Continent shares its name with their race. Whether Eldeen was their name for the entire continent or merely the part of it where they first appeared is unknown.
