Origin

Culann (sometimes rendered Culain) is a smith appearing in the Ulster Cycle of Irish mythology. His hound was killed in self-defense by a boy named Setana, who offered to take the dog's place until Culann could find a replacement. And thus began the story of the hero Cu Chulainn, 'Culann's Hound'.
