Source Name: | גִּדְעוֹן מיכאל |
Japanese: | ミヒャエル・ギデオン |
Appears In: | Ao no Kiseki, Sen no Kiseki I |
Origin
Michael is Hebrew and means 'Who is like God?'. The name is commonly associated with an angel or archangel originally appearing in the Tanakh, specifically the Book of Daniel. Michael also appears in Christian and Islamic texts.
Gideon comes from the Hebrew Gidon, who was a Judge in the Tanakh appearing in the book of that name. The commonly proposed etymology of the word is that it comes from the root Gada and means 'Cutter' or 'Hewer', in the sense of 'Warrior'.
Appearances
- Gideon first appears onscreen in Ao no Kiseki as one of the unnamed and masked terrorists attacking Orchis Tower during the West Zemuria Trade Conference who were later killed by the members of Red Constellation. He is formally introduced in Sen no Kiseki which chronologically takes place before the events of Ao. He is mentioned posthumously in the subsequent Sen no Kiseki games. Like the figure in the Tanakh, Michael Gideon leads a small force in battle with the goal of capturing or killing an enemy leader, though unlike his namesake he ultimately fails.
Trivia
- While comments by Kondo, the observed survival of at least one member of the ILF terrorists in Ao and the inaccuracy of secondhand reports left open the possibility of Gideon's survival, the events of Sen no Kiseki IV appear to imply that he is in fact dead.
