Origin

Derived from Carthago, the Latin name for what is known as Carthage in English. It was originally a Phoenecian colony that expanded into a powerful regional empire before eventually coming into conflict with the nascent Roman Republic.

Appearances

  • Altago is the setting of Ys VII and is mentioned in other games such as the chronologically earlier Ys VIII when the city and Romn are at war.

Trivia

  • 'The Five Dragons of Altago' was a famous adventure of Adol's mentioned all the way back in the PC-8801 manual to Ys I.
  • Like the real city of Carthage, Altago is a maritime power which came into inevitable conflict with the Romun Empire.
  • The original Phonecian name for Carthage was Qart Hadasht, meaning 'New City'.
