Origin: Proto-Polynesian
Japanese: 霊気マナ
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki Series

Origin

The word Mana in modern usage comes from the Maori language and means power or prestige, in the sense of a supernatural energy possessed by a person or an object. The Maori word derives from Proto-Polynesian and has cognates in other languages descended from it including Hawaiian and Tongan, where mana has the explicit meaning of 'miracle'.

Appearances

  • Mana is first mentioned in Sen no Kiseki II as a form of energy possessed by all things which the Hexen know how to manipulate.
  • The underlying kanji (though not the furigana) are mentioned in Tokyo Xanadu when discussing Rem's power.
