Origin

In Norse mythology, Mjolnir is the hammer wielded by the god Thor. The meaning of the name is disputed and different potential Old Norse roots giving meanings of 'Shining', 'Lightning-maker' and 'Grinder' have been proposed. In addition to being a terrifying weapon, Mjolnir is used to bestow blessings in multiple accounts or serve as a symbol of protection.

Appearances

  • The Mobile Satellite Mjolnir (機動衛星ミョルニル) is a boss in Star Trader.
  • Mjolnir is a tonfa usable by Lloyd in Ao no Kiseki which is described as bestowing divine protection upon the wielder.
  • In Ys IX, Mjolnir is a warhammer usable by Yufa which is said to transform the passions of people into strength.

Trivia

  • In the Skaldskaparmal, Mjolnir is said to have been forged by the dwarf Eitri as one of three items in a competition with his brother. One of the other two items was the ring Draupnir
