Altina Orion
Origin: Greek Mythology, possibly Latin
Source Name: Ὠρίων
Japanese: アルティナ・オライオン
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki II-IV

Origin

Altina's name is of uncertain derivation. It might be derived from Altum, Latin for 'Grow' or 'Support'. There are also two Roman settlements named Altinum which might be an alternate origin, one a fort in modern Romania (now the location of the modern town of Oltina) and the other a town was largely abandoned around 452 CE, whose inhabitants fled to nearby islands that eventually became the city of Venice.

Orion was a mythical Greek hunter and a constellation is named for him. The word in turn is derived from an older Akkadian word Uru-anna (𒌋𒊒𒀭𒈾) meaning 'Heaven's Light'.

Appearances

  • Altina Orion first appears in Sen no Kiseki II as an antagonist, though she is an optional (but non-canonical) playable character in the final dungeon. In Sen no Kiseki III and IV she becomes a protagonist. Given her role in the latter games and her development throughout them, her name fits the possible derivation from Altium, as she supports Rean throughout the story and grows greatly as a person over the course of the games.
