Bugbear
Origin: Middle English
Japanese: 《猟兵団》バグベア
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki I-II

Origin

A bugbear is an English creature created to frighten children, usually in the form of a monstrous bear. The word is derived from the Middle English word Bugge. meaning 'a frightening thing' with cognates in Scots, Welsh and German. It is also likely the original source for the modern word Bogeyman.

Appearances

  • Members of Bugbear appear first in Sen no Kiseki where it is mentioned that the group was created by wannabe jaegers hoping to raise their profile by taking advantage of the crisis in Erebonia. They reappear in the sequel in much the same capacity

Trivia

  • Bugbear is the first (and so far only) organization in the Kiseki series to be referred to specifically as mercenaries instead of as jaegers.
