Givaudan
Origin: French
Japanese: ジヴォーダン
Appears In: Ys IX

Origin

A reference to La Bête du Gévaudan, or the Beast of Gevaudan (rendered as ジェヴォーダンの鬼狼 in Japanese), an incident in eighteenth century France in the province of that name, in which a number of people were killed by animals over the course of several years. Descriptions of the 'monsters' tended to resemble an oversized wolf and the general hypothesis is that the killings were the work of one or more packs of especially nasty wolves, accounting for the number of victims and the reappearance of the 'beast' after several reports that it had been killed.

Appearances

  • Givaudan is a Larva that appears in Ys IX, appearing in the form of a three-headed wolf.

Trivia

  • The Givaudan's three heads also make it an indirect reference to Kerberos.
