Hrotsvit von Gandersheim was a German secular canoness who lived during the tenth century CE, with Hrotsvitha being its Latinized form of her name. She wrote poetry, dramas and historical works and is credited as the first female writer, historian and poet from the German-speaking lands. Her name is Old High German, derived from the words Hruod- ('Glory' or 'Fame') and Swind ('Strong') or their older Proto-Germanic roots.

- Saint Hrotsvitha is a historical character in Ys IX who helped the Kingdom of Gllia prevail in the Hundred Years War five centuries before the present day. Having been brought back to life with alchemy, she took the name Aprilis.

- Hrotsvitha's story is closely modeled on that of the French heroine and saint Jeanne d'Arc.
