Kronos
Origin: Greek Mythology
Source Name: Κρονος
Japanese: クロノス
Appears In: Sorcerian, Ys VIII, Ys IX, Hajimari no Kiseki

Origin

Kronos, or Cronus in Latin, was the king of the Titanes and god of time in Greek mythology. He was the son of Ouranos and Gaia and the father of many of the Olympians. His name is the root of chrono-, a prefix for 'Time'.

Appearances

  • The invocation for the spell Corrosion in Sorcerian calls on the aid of Kronos, god of time (時の神クロノス).
  • In Ys VIII, Radiant Armor Kronos (輝甲クロノス) is the strongest set of male-exclusive armor in the game. It was localized by NISA as Shining Chronus.
  • The Kronos Boots (クロノスブーツ) are an accessory in Ys IX.
  • In Hajimari no Kiseki, Crow Armbrust gains Kronos Bullet (クロノスバレット) as a replacement Craft for his former Nemesis Bullet.

Trivia

  • Kronos is connected to the primordial god Khronos (Χρονος) in the Orphic tradition, both being pre-Olympian gods with dominion over time, though Khronos was one generation closer to Gaia in the standard theogony. The two names are rendered identically in Japanese, meaning that either translation is appropriate in the absence of context.
