Origin

Orie is a Japanese given name. One particular example of its usage is in Gear Senshi Dendou where Kusanagi Orie is the mother of one of the show's protagonists and supports him on the battlefield.

Appearances

  • Orie Vander is the second wife of Matteus Vander and the mother of Kurt and first appears in Sen no Kiseki III through Hajimari. She is a highly-skilled fighter in her own right, wielding a naginata in combat and bearing the title Kaze Gozen (Lady Wind). Her name was localized by NISA as Aurier.

Trivia

  • Orie's title is reminiscent of Tomoe Gozen, a female warrior alleged to have served the Minamoto in the Genpei War of the late twelfth century. celebrated in literature since the fourteenth century. The Sen no Kiseki III Official Visual Collection directly draws the connection in a margin note which identifies Orie as 'Kurt's mother. Projects the image of someone who would stand beside her husband at the critical moment, naginata in hand. Tomoe Gozen.'. The connection was made explicit in the games with one of her Crafts being named for Tomoe.
