Nidhoggr
Origin: Norse Mythology
Source Name: Níðhöggr
Japanese: ニーズヘッグ
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki II-IV, Akatsuki no Kiseki

Origin

Nidhoggr is a creature from Norse mythology identified as both a serpent and a dragon, who gnaws on the roots of the world-tree Yggdrasil. The name is composed of two words meaning 'Malice Striker' or possibly 'One who strikes with malice'. Nidhoggr appears in both the Poetic and Porse Eddas.

Appearances

  • Nidhoggr is a jaeger group in the Kiseki series, first appearing in Sen no Kiseki II and in all subsequent games of that arc, as well as in Akatsuki no Kiseki where its members are major characters.

Trivia

  • The jaeger group is also referred to by the nickname 'The Immortal Serpent' (不死身の蛇) in reference to how easily they can replace members and thus the group is never in serious danger of disbanding.
  • Individual groups within Nidhoggr are all named after parts of the body in German.
