Origin
Aprilis is the Latin name for the fourth month of the year, from which modern names like the French Avril and English April are derived. The Romans themselves debated the origin of the name, with sources such as the Fasti Praenestini arguing that it derived from the verb meaning 'to open' (as in flowers opening in the spring) while Ovid argued that it was derived from Aphrodite, whose festival (as Venus) was celebrated on the first day of the month.
Appearances
- Aprilis is a major character in Ys IX. It is also the title of one of the game's songs.
Trivia
- Aprilis' name is possibly a reference to one of two significant dates in the life of the character's real-world parallel, Jeanne d'Arc. She entered the besieged city of Orléans in April of 1429 with a relief force. Jeanne was posthumously beatified in April of 1909.
