Towa Herschel
Origin: Japanese/German, Nayuta no Kiseki
Japanese: トワ・ハーシェル
Appears In: Sen no Kiseki I-IV

Origin

Towa is Japanese for 'Eternity'. Herschel is a German name and a diminutive of Hirsch which means 'Deer' or 'Hart'. The famous astronomers William and Caroline Herschel bore the name.

Appearances

  • Towa Herschel is a major supporting character in all four Sen no Kiseki games and is directly playable in Sen no Kiseki II.

Trivia

  • Towa's name is a double-reference. First, her family name is shared with Nayuta Herschel, the protagonist of Nayuta no Kiseki. Both characters have a great interest in stargazing, making the link to the real-life Herschels obvious. Towa's given name is like Nayuta an atypically Japanese name in a non-Japanese cast and it shares a thematic meaning, as Nayuta is a term for 'Infinity', or at least 'A number so large that infinity can be seen on a clear day'.
  • Towa has an alternate universe counterpart in Tokyo Xanadu's Kokonoe Towa.
